As of 24:00 on December 31 last year, the Three Gorges Hydropower Station generated 98.8 billion kWh of electricity per year, surpassing the Itaipu hydropower station jointly owned by Brazil and Paraguay, creating a new annual power generation capacity for single hydropower stations. The world's highest record, and for the first time become the world's highest power generation hydropower station.

The power generation of 98.8 billion kWh is equivalent to two and a half years of electricity consumption in Wuhan (the annual electricity consumption in Wuhan is about 35 billion kWh). In 2012, the Itaipu hydropower station on the Parana River in South America generated 98.107 billion kWh of electricity throughout the year, setting a world record at that time and refreshing again in 2013.

December 14 last year is the 20th anniversary of the official start of construction of the Three Gorges Project, the world's largest water conservancy project. At present, the total installed capacity of the Three Gorges Power Station is 22.5 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world. In July 2012, 26 generator sets were all put into production, and now it is the world's largest hydropower station and clean energy production base.

In 1992, the National People's Congress passed the proposal to build the Three Gorges Project. In that year, the national power generation capacity was 747 billion kilowatt hours. By 2013, the total electricity consumption in China had reached 532.3 billion kilowatt hours.

In 2014, the water supply of the Three Gorges Reservoir was 2.8% lower than the average for many years, and the power generation situation was not very favorable. In order to tap the potential, the Three Gorges Power Plant adheres to lean management, continuously improves the monitoring level, adjusts the operation mode of equipment, strengthens safety management and hidden danger investigation, strengthens the state analysis and evaluation of power plant equipment, and scientifically formulates an annual maintenance plan to optimize the operating conditions of the unit. It is always in a safe and stable state, which creates favorable conditions for the crew to be full. China Yangtze River Three Gorges Corporation announced on December 30, 2014 that the Group's total power generation in 2014 has exceeded 200 billion kWh, creating a new record in power production.

The Three Gorges Group comprehensively coordinated the hydropower development, construction and dispatch of the lower reaches of the Jinsha River, and achieved steady growth in power generation while ensuring the benefits of flood control, shipping, drought resistance and water replenishment.

As of 11:00 on December 29, the total power generation of the Three Gorges Group in 2014 exceeded 200 billion kWh, marking a new record of power generation in the Three Gorges Group and a new level of management. According to the calculation of the total social power consumption of 91.3 billion kWh in Beijing in 2013, the annual power generation of the Three Gorges Group can meet the two-year electricity demand in Beijing.

The static total investment predicted by the Three Gorges Project is about 90 billion yuan (the price at the end of May 1993), of which the project investment is 50 billion yuan and the resettlement is 40 billion yuan. It is predicted that the total dynamic investment will reach 203.9 billion yuan, and the actual total investment is estimated to be about 180 billion yuan. The construction funds are mainly from the Three Gorges Project Construction Fund, which is the electricity surcharge.

According to the 2011 Resettlement Work Report of the Three Gorges (Chongqing) Reservoir Area, the total planned investment required for the follow-up work of the Three Gorges is 123.89 billion yuan. According to public data, as of the end of 2009, the Three Gorges Project has completed an investment of RMB 184.9 billion.
